Iri Ji — New Yam Festival 2026
An afternoon celebrating the rich culture, traditions and heritage of the Igbo people, with community, celebration and connection.

Iri Ji, the New Yam Festival, is one of the most important celebrations in Igbo culture. It marks the end of the harvest, gives thanks for the year’s crops, and the first new yams are blessed and shared before anyone else eats from the new harvest.
In Queensland, Iri Ji is our biggest gathering of the year: a chance for elders, parents and children to celebrate together, and for our neighbours to experience Igbo hospitality.
